About anne and skin and tonic

One of the things I love most about skincare and beauty in general is how personal and intimate it is and yet so universal. Since I'm sharing such a personal part of my daily life with you, I definitely wanted to share a little bit about who I am and what I do besides face masks!

I am a sophomore in college in Portland, Oregon, studying political science. I am passionate about the environment, intersectional feminism, social justice, conscious consumerism and economic justice. I truly believe that the choices I make in my beauty routines should be impacted by my ethical beliefs. Starting a beauty blog with an emphasis on social justice and intersectionality has been something I've wanted to do for a long time and not been quite sure how. I definitely am still figuring it out but I'm excited to just dive right in and go on this journey with all of you.

I want to create a space that encourages self care and confidence for my readers, without promoting an unattainable lifestyle, over emphasizing consumerism, or rewarding companies or individuals who cause more harm than good. I want to bring you guys companies run by people with whom I share ethical values as well as women and POC. I want to show that you don't need mass amounts of products or to be constantly shopping to have an effective and enjoyable routine, and just to encourage you guys to use beauty to empower yourself so that you can empower those around you and just kick ass in all areas of your life.

I also enjoy hiking around Oregon, traveling, cats, a good vanilla latte, cheese pizza, visiting Portland's many weird bars, and hanging out with my people. I'm so glad you stopped by and I look forward to connecting with you! Please to contact me through email at annemeredithjohnson@gmail.com through instagram, or the contact page on here. It's so nice to meet you!
